Self Reliance

In Self-Reliance, a nameless protagonist, alone in a desolate urban expanse searches for human contact over the airwaves with his HAM radio set. Hope arrives when a small fragment of a numbers station transmission encourages the radio operator to pack up and head for the country. This work conflates right-wing libertarianism with the sustainable living movement through the lens of Ralph Waldo Emerson's 1841 essay, 'Self Reliance'. This work is a meditation on ideological slippage, existential reflection, and personal agency in times of crisis.
